Gas Furnace Prices - Important Facts You Need to Know When Choosing a New Gas Furnace

The recent spell of very severe cold weather has caused many householders to consider upgrading their gas furnace. Since this is a decision that has long-term consequences, you need to ensure that you take your time and do extensive research before reaching a final decision on which new furnace to buy. You should not base your decision solely on gas furnace prices.

The first consideration is whether to go for a replacement gas furnace or whether to change to an oil-fuelled furnace. The choice will not only depend on the current availability of either fuel in your locality but also the current cost of either fuel. And to make matters even more complicated, you should also consider how the price of oil and gas will fluctuate in the future.

A new furnace will probably have a lifetime of at least 15-20 years, so you need to do your research into how fuel prices in your area are likely to increase in that time period. There will - of course - be some guesswork involved in arriving at a conclusion.

The next consideration is to decide on what energy output furnace your property requires. If you choose a new furnace that has too low an energy output, then your house will never be warm and cosy. But get a furnace that produces too much energy than you need and you will be wasting money unnecessarily. You will find several resources on the web that will allow you to work out the heat output you ideally need for your size of property.

Another major factor in deciding upon a new furnace is its efficiency. Technology is developing at a raid pace and highly efficient furnaces are being introduced all the time. The better the efficiency, then the lower the running costs. But this is offset by the fact that more efficient furnaces cost more.

Finally, you need to think about how long you will need a furnace for your own needs. If you are planning to move home in the next few years, then maybe it would be a false economy to spend a lot of money on a highly efficient gas furnace. This however must be offset against how a new efficient furnace will help to appeal to any potential new buyer of your home.

As you should by now appreciate, buying a new furnace is not a decision that should be taken lightly - and certainly not by solely considering gas furnace prices alone. You need to consider all of the points I have mentioned above and do extensive research.
