The Many Benefits of Air Conditioning

There are some of us that cannot get a good night's sleep unless the room is quite cool. Even if we are on a beautiful vacation next to the beach the summer heat and humidity can make even such a peaceful experience annoying and painful. This is a bit different in the mountains as the higher elevation makes the temperatures cooler but sometimes even that is not enough.

As summer comes along, especially in the southern states we start off around June being productive and doing a lot of activities outside. This does not last very long though, and by around the middle of July we have had enough and just want to stay inside and cool of in front of the air conditioner. This might be a reason why some countries such as Spain have an all day fiesta as they know from experience that working during a hot day is simply not the brightest of ideas.

This actually is very important in the workplace. Some people say that being in cooler air makes the skin fairer and I think there were a few experiments which have proven this to be true. I mean, we all know what olden folks that love tanning too much look like. The productivity definitely takes a hit if the central cooling system breaks and the employees tend to start working much slower and taking frequent breaks to get something cold from the vending machine. At least the vendor is happy since their business picked up, but I do not think that the employer cares much about that. It is very important to have the right type of air conditioner as they are not all created equal and some companies provide much better customer service support than others. This could make a difference between having no cool air for a day and not having it for a week or more. I have heard of instances where the service repairmen took so long that the manager actually had to find a local repair service to fix the problem.

Imagine if cars did not have an air conditioning system and how that would change the way that we move around in the heat. Even with the current technology sometimes there are problems, and it still takes a while to get the car to a comfortable temperature on a very sunny day.

Some of the companies take it too far and have the workspace ending up being too cold. This is also bad as the employees start feeling numb and getting sick. When this happens in a house the electric bill tends to get very high. Also not everyone in the same house likes having the same temperature. In Japan they use a split system air conditioning device which is really smart and energy efficient. It allows for each room to be dialed in differently and the ones that are not used do not have to be cooled at all. Think about the night, as it is the one time where we usually want the bedroom cooler but are not occupying the rest of the home. The ability of having such a tremendous saving of energy for eight hours every single day really adds up. It is not yet very popular in the states but some of the smarter distributors do offer it as well.

Overall, air conditioning is very important to our culture but the type that we buy really depends on our needs. After all we are the only species on earth who love having a warm drink in a cold room on a hot summer day.
