The Importance of Home Air Conditioning During Hot Summer Months

In some areas of the country, the temperature can get up to 120 degrees during the summer. At these high temperatures, the heat can cause the body to experience dehydration or fever. This is the main reason why air conditioning is necessary when summer weather comes in. Once you understand how important home cooling is it's easy to see why people learn HVAC to become a HVAC technician.

Effect of Heat on Infants

In babies and young children, their skin to weight ratio is much larger than adults. Since they have more skin, they are most sensitive to high temperatures because their skin is absorbing excessive heat. As the baby absorbs more heat, their body becomes hotter and they can eventually have a heat stroke. Even if you think it is not too hot in the house, it might be too hot for your baby. Having an air conditioner will prevent these things from happening to your baby.

Effects of Heat on the Elderly

Elderly people are more prone to heat exhaustion and seizures than younger people are because their bodies don't work as they used to. When they experience high temperatures, their bodies have to work harder to cool off. They are also more quickly affected by the heat than those who are younger. Extreme heat can make them pass out or experience disorientation. With an air conditioner, the temperature can be controlled so that this doesn't happen.

Heat Stroke

Heat stroke is life-threatening and can cause damage to the brain and organs in the central nervous system. During a heat stroke, the brain will begin to overheat and will eventually fail if proper care is not taken. The brain can only properly function in certain temperatures so if the body becomes unable to cool itself off, the body's temperature will sky rocket. At this point, the person can experience hallucinations or even become unconscious. The best way to prevent heat stroke, especially in the elderly and young children, is to stay cool and drink lots of fluids. An air conditioner allows cool air to circulate in the room as opposed to a fan that only blows room temperature air.

Air Filtering Process

Air conditioners have special air filters that prevent foreign air particles from entering the air that comes out of the AC. Many types of allergies come from these foreign particles. Those with allergies will not have to worry about what kind of air the AC circulates into the room since the air will be cool and fresh.

Using the Sun and Heat to Help Power AC Units

Though excessive heat can cause a number of problems, the decreasing cost of photovoltaic (PV) panels is making home solar paneling an attractive option. Also, schools that teach AC maintenance and repair are now offering solar panel training to complement their other educations.
