When Do Convention Centers Need Portable Air Conditioners?

Convention centers act as large gathering places for businesses and other organizations. Some even double as civic centers and host political rallies, high school graduations and community meetings. The space is usually large and open so that everyone and all of the necessary tools for an event can be gathered in a single area. Convention centers often require the placement of portable air conditioning units in order to keep the inside of the building cool. There are several aspects to the events that are commonly held in the building that result in the need for portable air conditioners.

Delicate Equipment

Convention centers are often used as the primary venue for trade shows, annual business meetings and even new product introductions by companies. All of these events usually require that large amounts of multimedia equipment, like projectors, computers and audio systems to be used for hours or days at a time in order to show guests presentations or to create interesting environments at a trade show. This equipment consumes a fair amount of power and tends to generate larger amounts of heat than other types of devices. Portable air conditioning units help to keep the area cool so that equipment does not overheat and stop working.

Crowds

Many events that are held at a convention center involve large groups of people who can potentially fill the auditorium. The human body generates heat even when not performing any strenuous activity. The size of the crowds that gather inside of the center during a rally or a graduation ceremony can dramatically increase the temperature of the room. This heat can cause drowsiness, irritation or general discomfort if it is not handled correctly. Portable air conditioners give the building management staff the option to increase the amount of cooling in a convenient way that can be adjusted depending on the expect size of the crowds that will gather.

Catered Events

Any gathering or event at a convention center that lasts for more than an hour or two generally includes some type of catering in order to ensure that participants remain hydrated and to prevent situations where large groups leave during presentations to buy food elsewhere. Even the best catering set-up requires that the temperature inside of the building remain at a reasonable level in order to keep food in a buffet or on a serving line safe to eat for a long period of time. Portable air conditioning units can help to keep catered events cool so that food remains available to the participants for as long as necessary.
