Useful Information on Central Air Conditioning Maintenance

You can either perform your own central air conditioning maintenance or you can hire a service company to come out and do a preventative maintenance on your air conditioner for you. It is best to have this done two times a year in the spring of the year and in the fall.

Be careful when trying to locate a service company to come out to perform your maintenance. Those special ads that say they will perform your spring time tune up for only thirty nine dollars will make you wonder about the cost difference from other companies who charge sometimes double that for the same service. There could hidden costs or the possible up selling after they get your business with the cheaper rate.

Keeping your air conditioner clean is very important to help with mechanical breakdowns and to keep the air quality at its best for your home. There is nothing worse than coming home from work and finding out that your air conditioner is not operating. Having a service technician diagnosing your problem as a dirty air filter or dirty outdoor coils could be disappointing especially if you had put off having your annual maintenance to save money.

Should such problems occur in central air conditioning maintenance, the first thing to do before calling the technician is to check and adjust the thermostat settings yourself. For problems with clogged up dirt, replace the filter if it has become too dirty. Otherwise, leave unclogging the parts of the unit to the hands of your technician.

Make sure that your central system is in perfect condition always by regular central air conditioning maintenance. This will avoid those upsetting and sudden malfunctions which can take hours to troubleshoot depending on the extent of the system. Specifically, checking the air filter regularly is advisable. This is the place where foreign material and dust are collected. If the filter reaches its capacity the dirt begins to unload into the interior chamber of the unit or out through the vents. On the other hand, having an extra filter around is advisable. Then you can merely replace the old one with the new one as a first step in troubleshooting.
