Portable Air Conditioners - Cool!

Why not enjoy all year-round comfort with an efficient portable air conditioner. Create the perfect environment with one of our top of the range, reputable brand portable air conditioners from manufacturers renowned for quality and performance, such as Edgestar, Hunter, Hoover, Koldfront and Sharp. They make an amazing and noticeable improvement to your air quality and some of the more expensive air conditioners feature heaters and dehumidifiers. We are proud of our stock and assure you that you are buying premier quality.

Portable air conditioners are exactly as the name suggests and indicates that they can easily be carried from one area to the other. They are usually mounted on wheels and you can change room as and when you wish, without any hassle. The cooling power of an air conditioner is measured in BTU (British Thermal Units) and represents the amount of cooling the conditioner can produce per unit of time. This is exactly similar to your boiler, except that these units discharge cool air instead of heat. The power you require is determined by the size of the room/area you want to cool e.g. for a room up to 300 square feet you would need a conditioner with a power output of approx. 7000 BTU whereas an area up to 700 square feet would need an output of 14000 BTU.

An air conditioner is really a "heat pump" in that it pumps "heat" from one place to another, just as water pumps transfer water from one place to another. That is why air conditioners are fitted with a hose or exhaust, so that the heat you need to evacuate is transferred from the room/area you wish to cool. Some of the more expensive models actually have heating facilities so that they can work in reverse and pump heat into the room in which you wish to increase the temperature. This method of transferring heat is usually more energy-efficient than using, for example, an electric heater. It is wise in my opinion to invest in such a model as it will be of great use to you in the winter, just in case there is a particularly cold snap. The price of including this "reverse" feature is not excessive and I think it is well worth the little extra as it means you do not have to invest in a separate heater which can be expensive in terms of energy and operation.

One such unit and an excellent seller, is the Edgestar 14,000 BTU Dual Hose portable air conditioner and heater. This elegant silver metallic unit can heat or cool an area up to 525 square feet and has four functions: air conditioner, heater, fan and dehumidifier and features dual hose venting. The self-evaporative design exhausts most of the water so it does not need to be drained often or regularly, as in the case of a less efficient unit. The heater on this model is much more powerful than ceramic heaters. This space-saving device is mounted on large caster wheels and can be moved easily by anyone. A remote control makes operation simplicity itself; it is the ideal portable air conditioner/heater and we have advertised it at the unbeatable price of $469.26.
