The Benefits of a Free Standing Air Conditioner

Free standing air conditioner, as its name indicates, is an independent unit with blower, compressor and other electric items. Free standing air conditioners are great for those who want to keep certain areas of their homes or offices cool.

Every free standing air conditioner comes with a built-in washable filter that can easily remove up to 65 pints of moisture per day from a 400 square foot room. Some of these units have continuous on switch with 1 to 12 hour digital timer settings with remote control. So in entirety they are perfect for cooling the room any time of day. Additionally, their smooth rolling casters help make moving the unit from one room to another with fresh and cool air.

You must however remember that unlike split air conditioners and even window air conditioners they are noisier as the entire unit is inside your room. However, they are handy portable solution with no permanent installation. So they can be moved from one room to another and even place to another without any extra efforts.

Most of these free standing air conditioners work on self evaporating technology. They are designed to provide quiet and efficient cooling to any room, with no permanent installation. Technically, they too work on refrigeration cycle with fan and compressor. So during the cooling process, water is extracted from the air into the unit. Most of this water is then recycled and used to cool the unit and make it run more efficiently.

In almost every free standing air conditioner a majority of water (approx. 65-70%) condensed is evaporated out with the exhaust air, reducing the hassle of emptying the water tank constantly.

Another striking feature of such air conditioners is that every unit has a built-in water tank, mostly fixed, with a drain outlet and water tube. When the tank fills, the compressor stops operating and the power light will flash. This indicates that the tank should be emptied. Nevertheless, this does not happen with every model, as some units are automatic in operation, so you are free of any additional hassles to empty the tank now and then.

As we all know that air conditioners are used for cooling and dehumidifying the living space. Almost all air conditioning equipment usually reduces the humidity of the air processed by the system. The relatively cold (below the dew point) evaporator coil condenses water vapor from the processed air, much like a cold drink will condense water on the outside of a glass. The water is drained, removing water vapor from the cooled space and thereby lowering its relative humidity.

Some air conditioning units dry the air without cooling it. These work like a normal air conditioner, except that a heat exchanger is placed between the intake and exhaust. In combination with convection fans, they achieve a similar level of comfort as an air cooler in humid tropical climates, but only consume about one-third the energy. Those who find the draft created by air coolers uncomfortable also prefer them.

So free standing air conditioning units are used when we need to shift that unit from one place to another, sometimes more cooling required on some particular space like in restaurants and bars. So no matter, where and why, you can take control of your indoor temperature with this portable air conditioner.

They are also great at dehumidifying a room, so can be used effectively at your home also. For example, you can use a portable room air conditioner to keep your bedroom cool at night and even to keep computer room or study room cool and dry. In addition, they are great to cool down attics or upstairs rooms. And last but not the least, remember when there are no windows these free standing windowless air conditioners are also great for an office or room.
