Air Conditioning Or Ceiling Fans?

When it comes to providing in-room cooling then in an ideal World we would probably all have air conditioning fitted in our homes or offices, however the reality is that they are not cheap to fit to a whole house, nor in the days of ever-rising energy costs are they cheap to run.

So if you are finding yourself fed up of hot weather making your house uncomfortable to live in then why not take a leap of faith and invest in the installation of some ceiling fans.

They are very cheap to install when compared to air conditioning, as they require virtually no alterations to your property. Indeed the chances are that you already have a central ceiling light, and this means that you can simply replace it with a combined ceiling fan and light. To install it all you will need to do is make sure that the fixing is screwed securely to a ceiling joist.

This simple installation process means they can easily be retro-fitted to just about any room by anyone with simple Do It Yourself (DIY) skills, unlike fitting air con, which may involve the removal of your ceiling.

They operate by blowing air gently down from the ceiling (The upper edge should be leading the fans rotation when used in summer). They feature large wide blades, that rotate relatively slowly but still shift very large volumes of air, indeed even if you have air conditioning fitting them can actually save you money as they are far more effective at shifting large volumes of air than an air conditioning unit is meaning that you can save money by having your air con set on low, and use a ceiling fan to shift the air around more efficiently.

They feature next to no moving parts and thus are far less likely to breakdown, and even if they do the low purchase cost of them means that you can virtually class them as disposable and simply fit a new one if one breaks down e.g. if the motor fails it is simply cheaper to fit a new one.

Lastly they can easily be removed if no longer required, or taken with you if you move, unlike air conditioning, which it is not practical to move.

For all of the above reasons there is a strong case for you to consider installing ceiling fans to cool down your home or office compared to installing air conditioning.
