How Can I Get Thick, Full Hair?

All the celebrities seem to have it and all us normal women want it. What is it? Glossy, thick and flowing locks of course. A-listers would not be seen dead on the red carpet without the perfect accessory of a beautiful head of hair. Celebrities have a team of experts on hand at all times and they have the money to splash out on the latest beauty treatment and the most luxurious products, but what hope do us mere mortals have of creating our dream look? Do not fear, there are a few handy hints that if followed correctly could see your thin, lack lustre hair transform into something that even the most a-list celeb would be proud of.

Recent studies have shown that over 80% of women wish they had thicker, fuller and shinier hair. In response to this desire for thicker hair, roughly 50% of hair-styling products on the market are designed to plump up hair volume, therefore we have no excuse for not using the right products as there is something for everyone. It may take some time to figure out what products work for you but you are sure to find something suitable. But before you start experimenting with products it is essential to get to grips with the basics of good hair.

Firstly, have a look at the style of your hair. Is your hair cut appropriate for the style of look that you are going for, or is their any style there at all. A good haircut can do wonders for pumping up the volume. If you talk to your hairdresser they will tell you that the most instant way to achieve volume and bounce is to have layers put through your hair. If you have long hair that is lacking volume then it may be time to think about losing some of your length and going for a shorter style. A shorter layered haircut will give the appearance that hair is thicker than it actually is.

Next you need to reassess the colour of your hair as the right hair colour can give the illusion of thick hair if done correctly. For thick, full locks have highlights strategically added to your hair to give the appearance volume and texture. This works because the colour contrast that highlights provide will give the illusion of depth and fullness. Hair colouring can actually boost the volume of each individual strand of hair as well. The colouring agents actually push open your hair shafts to deposit the new colour so your hair is physically thickened when you colour your hair.

Now back to products. If you want to achieve thick, full locks then you need to prepare your hair at the shampoo and conditioning stage. Look out for volumizing shampoos and conditioners that contain protein-based ingredients as these proteins will work to thicken your individual hair strands. The proteins attach to the individual strands to build up body and fullness. You can also try spraying a volumizing or thickening product through your damp hair before blow drying it.

The blow drying process itself can make a huge difference to the volume and thickness of your hair. You can experiment with using different diffuser attachments that lift up your hair and encourage body and volume. A top tip is to blow dry your hair upside down so that your hair is lifted from the roots. Try using a barrel brush to curl your hair around from the root and when you are finished use a blast of cold air to set your style.

However, over time for some women their thin and lifeless hair may cause them more problems than just prolonged styling sessions. For some women will notice as they get older or as they go through the process of giving birth that their already fine hair may become even thinner and some may even suffer from bald patches. In some cases there is medical treatment that can be provided but what if you are one of the many women who can't do anything to restore their hair to its former glory?
