Air Conditioner Trouble Shooting Tips

If your AC unit has ever failed on a hot summer's day then you will know just what a problem this can be. In many cities without access to a cool air flow life becomes unbearable. Most new units will come with a warranty for maintenance but if yours has just broken down and the service documents have expired then you will want to know what the most common air conditioner trouble shooting tips are otherwise you will have to hire an expensive repair person.

To begin with you should turn off all power going to the unit. If possible unplug it from the wall. In many cases when an AC malfunctions it is because the filters are full of dust and dirt. Our cities are full of airborne particles that will clog up the filters. This can often remedy the problem immediately.

Sometimes the problem can be a simple one. If you use a remote control to operate the air conditioning then try replacing the batteries. Often we forget that these will wear down each year. Also, maybe you are using the control in the wrong way. Perhaps you have set the unit to switch on at a particular time of the day.

Have you noticed that many of our electrical gadgets will start to work correctly again after we switch the power on and off? This also holds true for air conditioners. Sometimes by resetting the power they will magically spring back to life.

An air conditioner will use a compressor. If this fails then the unit will not function. Check to see if there are any signs of burning or ice around the compressor. If there is a problem then this part will need to be replaced. If all these tips fail then the problem may be more serious and it could be worth considering a new model as repairs can be costly.
