What to Do If Your Baby Has a Fever


There are a lot of parents that are always afraid when their babies get sick or have fever. You must know that fever is just a manifestation that something is going on inside his body. It actually tells you that his immune system is doing the right thing in protecting your baby. But your baby gets very irritable when he has fever. There are some ways that you can do whenever your baby has fever.

GIVE MEDICATION

You can give your baby his medication every time he has fever. These may include ibuprofen and Tylenol. But you have to realize that you must only give these medications if your physician tells you to do so. You must not give your baby medications without consulting a doctor.

DECREASE CLOTHING

Clothes insulate the heat inside your baby's body. You can probably decrease the body temperature if you remove some clothes. You need to make your baby comfortable and convenient to decrease his fever. You can also make him wear clothes made of cotton to allow more airflow.

BATHE YOUR BABY

When your baby has fever, it will be more beneficial for him if you will bathe him. Keep in mind that you need to use lukewarm water and not cold water. Try to remember that babies do not have good temperature control. Cold water will probably cause chills on him. Try to use lukewarm water to make him more comfortable.

ENTERTAIN YOUR BABY

You must know that your baby will never feel good if he has fever. Try to make him happy and comfortable by doing the things that he truly enjoys. You can give him his favorite toys or you can play his favorite games. Try to make him more relaxed and happy to decrease the discomfort that he feels.

IMPROVE AIR CIRCULATION

Good airflow will help decrease your baby's fever. It will surely make him more comfortable. You can use fans and air conditioning system or whatever you have in your house that can make the ventilation better for your baby. You can open the windows to allow more air to go inside.

INCREASE WATER INTAKE

Always remember that water helps to regulate the temperature inside the body. It helps to cool down the fever by eliminating the heat through various processes like sweating. This is one good way to reduce the temperature of your baby's body.

Babies will often get sick because they have weak immune system. They can easily acquire ailments that can give them fever. Always remember that you do not need to panic when your baby has fever. You just need to do some things for him to decrease his fever and make him more comfortable.
